The Nature Principle: Human Restoration and the End of Nature-Deficit Disorder with Richard Louv

Thursday, May 19, 2011  7:00-9:00 PM
The Skokie School Auditorium
520 Glendale Ave., Winnetka, IL

Cover - The Nature PrincipleLaunch into summer by attending this fabulous evening with journalist and 2008 Audubon Medal winner Richard Louv, to celebrate the release of his new book,The Nature Principle: Human Restoration and the End of Nature-Deficit Disorder. Extending themes found in his book Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder, Louv calls upon our society to match its investment and faith in technology with a dedication to a nature-balanced existence – becoming “nature-smart.”

Part personal narrative, part anecdote, and supported by a broad range of research, The Nature Principle moves the argument to the realms of public policy, business and community. Louv, who is also the founding chairman of the Children & Nature Network, notes that as of 2008, more humans live in cities that countryside, and with this increased urbanization, it’s incumbent upon us to have a greater understanding of the mind-body-nature connection. Human “restoration” through nature will be a dominant trend going forward, and Louv urges us all to claim the rights and take up the responsibilities of our profound connection to nature.

photo of Richard LouvLouv has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post and The Times of London, among others, and has appeared on many national TV and radio shows.
