FAN Idol 2012
Thursday, May 10, 9:30am to noon
New Trier High School/West Campus (Room C234, 7 Happ Road, Northfield)
This annual event began in 2010 with great success -- 8 speakers, 25
exhibitors and 80 attendees from the North Shore and beyond. It is a free
event to all and is essentially a showcase of speakers that is designed to
bring together area professionals with those individuals (e.g. PTAs,
non-profits, etc.) who plan their own programs for parents. An invitation is
required to attend. It is a collaboration of Family Awareness Network
(FAN) and the Parent Education Consortium (PEC, a group encompassing those
who plan and promote programs for parents throughout Chicagoland
www.peccalendar.org). Our
goal is to offer a diverse group of professionals who speak on a variety of
related topics and who can offer their presentations to these non-profits at
no more than $500 per engagement.

More information for potential FAN
Idol Speakers
We're on the lookout for local professionals who can expertly address an
audience of parents on a variety of youth development-related issues. The 8
FAN Idol speakers are selected from a pool of applicants. In previous years,
we have selected our speakers from a list of about 25 professionals.
Issues that have been covered by parenting professionals include:
-
setting limits
-
finding a balance between good and bad stress
-
medical emergencies
-
raising girls/raising boys
-
changing moods of adolescence
-
storytelling to develop the imagination
-
sleep disorders
-
eating well
-
self-awareness through meditation
During FAN Idol, each speaker is given 12 minutes to present your parenting
topic. Because of the brief time period, you will have a podium and a
microphone, but no PowerPoint/Keynote options. As a speaker, you are also
offered table space to exhibit your info (business cards, info sheets, etc.)
and network with the attendees at appointed times throughout the morning.
There is no formal application. Please email the following to Kitty Curran,
FAN Idol coordinator:
-
presentation topic(s) with a brief summary of your speech
-
your background info (education, experience, etc.)
-
background info on your organization
The deadline for submitting speaker info is March 15, 2012.
Speakers are selected and notified in early April. For those applicants
who are not selected as speakers, we offer limited display table space for
networking. Contact: Kitty Curran, FAN Idol coordinator, at (kittycurran@comcast.net)
